I’ve been wanting to create this for a longgg time. My cousin and I started to create this mockumentary after I got my first ‘professional’ camera in 2015 for Christmas, but we never got around to finishing.
Fast forward nine years later, we decided to pick it back up!
Three Color Pudding (Chè Ba Màu) is a short film on the perspective of Ngocson (pronounced knock-son) as he prepares for graduation and reflects on his life as a Vietnamese American growing up within an immigrant household. Set up as a day(ish) in the life, Three Color Pudding (Chè Ba Màu) highlights the similarities of Ngocson’s reflection to the popular Vietnamese dessert: like Chè Ba Màu, Ngocson exists in layers. His interests, his personality, his background, his culture; those layers of himself are allowed to coexist without being separated. Son is not one version of himself. He is layered.
